Where We Are:
If you have come to live in the town or surrounding area and are looking for a regular ministry of God’s word we hope you will feel free to come and join us at Tain Free Church. You will be most welcome. There is a crèche available in the church hall.
The church is located near the bottom of Scotsburn Road a couple of minutes from the A9 bypass. Follow the signs for the Health Centre or the Academy.
Church Building:
The current church building has been in use since 1938 and prior to that an older building occupied the site.
Ministers past and present:
The first minister was the Rev R.J. Murray who began his ministry in the town in 1931.
The Rev Clement Graham became minister in1943. He was called to be a professor in the Free Church College Edinburgh.
The third minister was the Rev Kenneth Macleod who came to Tain in 1974
The fourth was the Rev Innes Macrae who ministered in the town from 1983 until his retiral in 1998.
Rev. Ronald Morrison: 1998 - Present
The present minister is the fifth since the church came into use. Rev Ronald Morrison came to the congregation in 1998 from Sydney NSW where he had been ministering to a congregation in the South of the city for a year. Prior to that he was minister of North Uist and Grimsay in the Western Isles.
Preaching.
There is a strong emphasis on preaching the word of God. As a church we are convinced that faith in Jesus comes by listening to the words that God has given to us in the Bible.
Singing.
Our singing is from the psalms without musical accompaniment. Come and hear – we think that the use of the voice exceeds the use of an organ or other accompaniment!
Tape Ministry.
Should you require a list of taped services please email to the site and a catalogue will be sent to you. There is a nominal charge of £1.00 for the tape. However the message of the tape is what is important as opposed to the charge.
Church Magazine.
This is a local publication with articles relating to congregational life and topical matters. There is also a Children’s corner.
Church structure.
We have 1 minister 4 elders and 3 Deacons.
The elders have the oversight of the spiritual matters of the congregation and the deacons’ role is primarily to deal with finance and properties.
The building has been renovated to be user friendly for disabled chairs and push chairs.
There is a designated area inside the church where invalid chairs can be situated.
There is also a loop system to help those who have hearing difficulties.
